Awakening within the dream
Reflections on A Course in Miracles lesson 279: Creation's freedom promises my own
We are dreaming
A Course in Miracles invites us to realize that we are dreaming right now. In this very moment. What we believe to be our reality it is a dream. We are sleeping. We are unconscious. And we are experiencing something that is not our true nature.
The experience of being bound to laws, rules, and anything other than love can only take place in a dream. It cannot exist anywhere else. For in reality, this is impossible. In reality, only one law prevails, and that is the law of love, which says that everything created from love is love and will always be love.
The dream is a school
But the dream holds an intention. It is a school. A teaching. We learn through contrast. We learn love's opposite. Not to live by that opposite, but to understand love, how it works, how it moves through existence. We gain a deeper understanding of our reality.
We will eventually awkaen from the dream, and take this recognition with us. We return to love. We leave this world behind us. Awkening from the dream is not a foreign experience. It is simply coming home. It is not a sorrowful event. It is not something we should grieve when we awaken. We awaken as we awaken from any other dream. And then we simply say: Good morning. I am back. I am awake again. And that is it you are simply home again.
The promise of freedom
The lesson is also a friendly reminder of the promise; the freedom that I do experience now, I will have back when I awaken. When I awaken from the dream, I will have total freedom again. For that is my natural state. I was not created to be bound by anything. I was not created to obey laws or rules. I was not created to be limited in any way. I was created to be expansive and creative. That was God's intention when he created his son.
And I am the son. Just as everyone else in this dream is. We are all fragments of the same soul. The same entity. The one to whom God gave himself. The one God became when he said: My son is beautiful. My son is loved.
Waking up in the dream
So this is a friendly reminder that we are dreaming. And our task is to wake up within the dream. We are already in process with this, for the simple awareness that there is something other than the dream is the beginning of awakening. We must continue to awaken more and more. And we do this by releasing the beliefs we have learned in this world. All the things we have taken for granted. This is what A Course in Miracles calls forgiveness. Releasing our beliefs. Releasing everything except God's pure love.
Everything we know, everything we have learned in the world, must go. Must be undone. When we have undone it all, we will be awake within the dream. But we are still in the dream. We are still in the world. And the more we undo the world, the more we learn to use our creative power to create the world as an image of heaven. Bring heaven to earth.
Creating your freedom bubble
My first step is to awaken within the dream. And that means knowing that I am dreaming. Knowing that this is not my reality. Knowing that I am not bound by these laws in any way. And beginning to create my own space, my own bubble within this world. Within that bubble, my creations prevail, my rules apply. It is a small freedom bubble within the great dream.
From that bubble I can observe the world. I can see what I still believe, and I can release it. I can forgive what I still need to forgive. Until one day when the promise is fulfilled and I awaken from the dream, not just within the dream.
The way home
Freedom is inherent. As love is inherent. It is part of me. It is who I am. And the more I live that authentic self in this world, the more I bring heaven to earth. And the closer the earth is to being heaven, the closer I am to awakening from the dream.
Then there will come a day when we transition out of this world, out of this dream, and awaken in our reality as God's Son. And then we are bound by nothing. Absolutely nothing.
It is simply coming home.
Thank you.
